### Before You Order

- **Voltage must meet or exceed the original part.** Replacing a 63V cap with a
  100V unit is fine; going the other way is not.
- **Check the body size.** Electrolytics of the same value vary in physical
  size between series – match the diameter and height to the space on your
  board, and mind the lead spacing.
- **Mind the polarity.** The striped leg is negative. Putting one in backwards
  damages the capacitor and can make it vent.
- **Match low-ESR where it matters.** In switch-mode power supplies, use a
  low-ESR type rather than a general-purpose one.

### Storage & Shelf Life

Electrolytics slowly lose their forming while sitting on a shelf. If a cap has
been unused for several years, reform it by bringing the voltage up gradually
through a resistor before putting it into service.

**Can I use a 100V cap to replace a 50V or 63V one?**
Yes, provided the body fits. Higher voltage rating with the same capacitance
is a safe substitute.

**Why 105°C instead of 85°C?**
A 105°C part generally lasts far longer at the same operating temperature,
which is why it's the usual choice for amplifier and power supply repair.
