Audiophiler Axial HiFi Crossover Capacitor – 100V, 1~100µF Optional
The Audiophiler axial HiFi crossover capacitor is built for passive loudspeaker crossover networks and tube/transistor amp signal paths. Rated 100V, non-polarized axial-lead construction, available from 1µF to 100µF. A practical drop-in upgrade from bargain electrolytics in tweeter and midrange filter sections.[6,12,18](@ref)

Where To Use It
- Tweeter high-pass section – most audible upgrade spot in a 2-way crossover[3,8](@ref)
- Midrange band-pass filters in 3-way passive networks
- First-order (single-cap) tweeter/horn filtering[6](@ref)
- Tube amp coupling / blocking capacitors[10,16](@ref)
- Preamp and line-stage signal-path decoupling
- Replacing aged electrolytics in vintage speaker crossovers[3](@ref)
How To Choose The Value
Match the original capacitor's µF exactly – changing value moves the crossover frequency and ruins the designer's voicing.[3,6](@ref) Rough guide for a first-order cap into an 8Ω driver: 4.7µF ≈ 4.2kHz, 6.8µF ≈ 2.9kHz, 10µF ≈ 2.1kHz.[6](@ref) When in doubt, read the old part's label.
Installation Notes
- Non-polarized: Either lead can take the signal – no direction marking needed.[18](@ref)
- Bend don't force: Axial leads bend along the body axis; pre-form with round-nose pliers to fit PCB holes.
- Secure the body: Film caps are heavier than they look – zip-tie or dab of hot glue to kill microphonics.[3](@ref)
- Solder fast: Don't cook the lead seal – heat briefly, let cool, trim excess.
- Bypass trick: Short on budget? Parallel a 0.1µF film cap across a big electrolytic to clean the top end without buying a huge film part.[3](@ref)
Why Audiophiler Axial?
Crossover boards are cramped and signal matters most at the tweeter. The Audiophiler axial wraps metallized PP film in a low-loss winding with axial leads so it drops into existing through-hole layouts without standing tall off the board. 100V gives margin over typical passive crossover voltages,[6](@ref) and the non-polarized construction means you can't wire it backwards.[18](@ref) Stock the common values (1/2.2/3.3/4.7/6.8/10/22µF) and you'll always have the right part for a tweeter rebuild or a full crossover recap.
