CD60 Motor Starting Capacitor 216-259uF 330V AC Snap-In
The CD60 Motor Starting Capacitor is a high-capacitance electrolytic start capacitor built for demanding single-phase AC motors. With a capacitance range of 216–259 µF (MFD) and a 330V AC rating at 50/60 Hz, it delivers the strong starting surge needed to bring pool pumps, well pumps, compressors, and larger workshop motors up to speed quickly — reducing strain on motor windings and helping prevent slow-start or breaker-trip complaints.[4,10](@ref)
Housed in a rugged phenolic resin case, the capacitor shrugs off shock, vibration, and heat in garage, pump house, and rooftop environments. The snap-in terminals accept standard quick-connect spades for a secure, tool-light fit into existing brackets — making it a straightforward drop-in replacement for service technicians and hands-on repairers.[10,18](@ref)
Key Features
- Capacitance Range: 216–259 µF (microfarads), sized for mid-large motor starting loads.
- Voltage Rating: 330V AC, suitable for 110V–230V single-phase motor systems.
- Dual Frequency: Runs on both 50 Hz and 60 Hz supplies.
- Snap-In Mounting: Standard quick-connect terminals, no extra hardware required.
- Heavy-Duty Shell: Phenolic resin housing with good heat, shock, and vibration resistance.
- Intermittent Duty: Engaged only for the few-second start window, then disconnected by relay or centrifugal switch.
- Non-Polarized AC Electrolytic: Either terminal orientation works in the start circuit.[8,10](@ref)

Applications
Direct replacement for start capacitors in the following equipment:
Pool & Water Systems
- Pool pump motors
- Well pumps and deep-well systems
- Booster and irrigation pumps
HVAC & Refrigeration
- Air conditioner compressor motors
- Heat pump compressors
- Large walk-in cooler and freezer compressors
Workshop & Compressor Equipment
- Stationary air compressors
- Table saws, planers, and bench grinders
- Pressure washers and floor buffers
General Single-Phase Motors
- Any single-phase AC motor using a CD60-type start capacitor in the 216–259 µF range
- Equipment originally fitted with 200–250 µF class start capacitors (verify nameplate first)
Installation & Safety
- This is a motor starting capacitor only — it must be used with a working relay or centrifugal switch that drops it out of circuit after startup.[8,9](@ref)
- Never run a start capacitor continuously. A stuck centrifugal switch or seized relay will cook the cell and bulge the case.
- Lock out and tag the branch circuit. Verify zero voltage at the motor with a known-good tester before touching anything.[3,9](@ref)
- Capacitors store charge after unplug. Use a properly rated discharge resistor (e.g. 10 kΩ/5W) across the terminals — do not short with a screwdriver.[3,6,9](@ref)
- Photograph the old wiring before disconnecting. Reconnect to the same terminals.
- Match three things: µF range, AC voltage rating (330V AC or higher), and physical dimensions/bracket style.
- If the old cap reads more than ~10% off its label, shows bulging/leakage, or the vent disc is popped — replace it.[6,9](@ref)
- Not sure? Call a licensed electrician. High-capacitance start cells can bite hard.
